SWEETWATER PRE SUMMER

 SUMMER IS JUST ABOUT HERE

With the weather absolutely Belting of late the fishing is starting to pick up also. I have made a few trips with some various people on my foat to a few cool freshwater fishing holes.

From my last post when I found that the Bass had been sitting in the lower 2-3 metre water column have now come up to feed surface in the right afternoon conditions. One thing I have noticed is the Bass have fired like crazy on the surface in the shadows and over hanging branches when the water has been around 23 degrees until strong Easterly's start blowing and cool the water down to around 20 degrees and this seems to shut the Bass down in their tracks. Now I know that Bass will still fire surface in water temps of 20, But a dramatic 3 degeee drop in temp so quick seems to knock them around a bit, so lately I have really monitored the low wind conditions in different time frames and timing the change.... I will get back to you's with my results in a later post.

 DUO International Lures have recently brought out some amazing new cicada lures to the Australian market, These little beauties have a great action and interchangeable legs. Get to a supplier and get a few cause any real Basso should be fishing these things.... Bloody awesome lures. I had some great surface session late last week and had some cracking underwater and topwater shots, But my camera has had water intrusion and I lost all data..... It is currently in the shop on a return in around 7 days. Just in time for my Maclaey River Bass trip late this month.

I have had Mark Miller on my boat for a Bass afternoon session one day this week and mark is a seem proclaimed Snake fanatic. We noticed a big 2 metre Diamond Python swimming the surface and start climbing a tree. Mark instantly got me to motor up to the tree and he boarded the snake on the boat for a health inspection and a few shots then released back into the trees.

SKINNY WATER SECRETS

I haven't had the time on the water as much as I would have liked lately, but Jessi and I found some time up our sleeves and got the Bass gear out, hooked up the boat and left for the river early Sunday
morning.

After casting surface lures in the early morning sunrise with no success, I noticed  on the Lowrance side structure scan that the Bass were sitting in the snags, but sitting around the mid water column at around 2-3 metres.

Switching up to a diving lure I tied on a DUO Shad 62DR and within no time hooked up to a good size Bass around 350mm and pulling him from a submerged branch in a drop off zone.

                                                 


as the morning went on I noticed on the sounder that the Bass started to come up a metre or so in the water column but were still not high enough for surface action Jessi and I tied on a DUO Tetra Works Toto Shad mid diver and managed to pull a few good 300mm Bass by retrieving lures alonside submerged logs.

Bass early in the season are sitting in deeper drop off zones, sitting alongside the banks awaiting ambush.

After boating around 5 good size Bass in early to mid 300's we started to make the long trip back up river and ran into a good mate of mine that didn't seem to have much success at all from the morning through to lunch.

Jessi and I decided to call it a day and headed back to the ramp and have decided to fish both Saturday and Sunday this weekend for dome skinny water bass addiction!.... Stay tuned for another report next week. Cheers for reading,

FLATHEAD IN DEEP DROP ZONES

FLATTIE FLICKING            

Headed out to find a few Flathead and Mulloway this morning, firstly fishing the flats with small Bivi vibes hopping the sand bottom and puffing the sand, although only managing to land one Flathead around the 38cm mark.

As the end of the run in tide came to its peak I sounded up a large drop off from 4 metres to 9 metres and a few fish that seemed to me to be Flathead sitting right on the drop zone on the bottom.

I tied on a DUO Beach Walker Vibe and casted towards the beachline and slow hopped the lure down the drop zone. After the initial strike from a fish I called for a soapy Jew until I felt those long wide head shakes and knew it was a big girl Flathead.

Between the two of us we managed to land some very nice sizable Flatties using mixed retrieves with medium sized vibes fishing the deep holes hour before and hour after the run in tide with some very cool results... Cheers
